About

Laura Leah Lindeman (Traverse) is a distinguished Indigenous artist from Cornwall, Ontario, who imbues her work with the profound power of abstract expressionism.

Through her studio, Laura Leah's Studio, she creates vibrant and emotionally resonant pieces that serve as a testament to her mission: to use art as a catalyst for healing and a powerful force for breaking generational trauma. Her creative practice is a dialogue between her personal journey and her deep connection to her community.

Lindeman's artistic journey began with a diverse and comprehensive academic foundation. She cultivated her skills at several notable institutions, including studying Art Fundamentals at Sheridan College and Abstract Art at the Ottawa School of Art, followed by three semesters at Bishop's University. A pivotal moment in her career was a specialized course in Photoshop and Abstract Expressionism, which led to her collaboration with Patrick John Mills on a memorable live painting event in Ottawa. This broad educational background also includes a period of study in nursing at St. Lawrence College, demonstrating her multifaceted approach to life and learning. It was during this time that her remarkable painting, S.O.T.S, was recognized with a national award from Colleges and Institutes Canada in 2015.

Lindeman's work has consistently garnered critical acclaim and recognition. The same celebrated piece, S.O.T.S, received an honorable mention from the Cornwall Tag Gallery in 2013, solidifying its place as a significant work in her portfolio. Her painting Lake Louise further showcased her talent, earning a second-place award at the 11th annual Focus Art juried exhibition. The piece was later acquired by a dear friend at the "Apples and Art" event in 2022. Most recently, Lindeman was awarded a grant to further her artistic endeavors, allowing her to delve deeper into her serene and introspective Accompanying Nature series.

Her art has been featured in a variety of prominent venues and events, including the inaugural "Asinabka film and media arts festival" at Gallery 101 in 2012 and the Fall Down Gallery when it was still open. Her work continues to be on display at the Rothwell Gallery and Framing in Ottawa, where it invites viewers to connect with the powerful stories and emotions she expresses through her unique style.
